Team Stirista: Blaine Britten

1.) Tell us about your daily and overall responsibilities, and what your average work day looks like.

I oversee the operations of the digital department with the goal of growing business on behalf of our clients. I am fortunate to have a great, highly skilled team that enable me to toggle between the data creation, data activation, managed services and business development roles.

The average day is a blend of many separate challenges, which makes for fast-paced days, but great engagement across projects. Digital touches so many parts of the business and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work with all of the talented teams we have: Marketing, Operations and Sales.

2.) What do you like best about working at Stirista?

I like that the results of our individual efforts can be observed and measured. We are still a young, energetic company handling many challenges. Being able to see the positive results of hard work motivates everyone to keep the momentum going.

3.) Stirista’s digital services saw tremendous growth, including reach and revenue, in 2018. To what would you attribute that? And, what’s the plan for 2019?

Great people working toward the same goal is the reason for our success in 2018. We have all done our part to grow Stirista as a recognized brand in both the data space and as an agency. Having innovative ideas is part of it, but having those ideas work is where the sustained growth comes.

We were able to come up with some significant ways to help our clients and maintained the innovative spirit while delivering consistent growth, month-over-month.

I’m confident that 2019 will be a year where we look to continue to round out our offerings and work with brands on a more one-to-one level. We are going through some very exciting times and I am proud to be a part of such a dedicated team.

4.) What excites you most about your job?

Seeing Stirista employees come into their own and grow in their careers. I know that the product will only continue to improve as people become experts within their roles.

I have learned so much in the past year and have applied those learnings to much success in areas that I previously would not have been willing to try. As Stirista continues to learn, products such as Visitor ID Graph or custom social data segments will take off and become even more valuable to brands looking to effectively reach their customers.    

5.) Tell us about your background. What did you do before coming to Stirista?

I grew up in Groom, a small town in the Texas panhandle with fewer than 600 people. I studied corporate finance and accounting at UT-Austin and started working as an analyst after graduation.

My wife, Katie, and I decided whoever got a job first would determine where we would move. She had three offers to my zero. So, San Antonio it was!

I couldn’t be happier with the decision because I met both Arin (Director of Data Services) and Karl (Manager of Deployment and Software Services) at our jobs prior to joining Stirista. Keeping in touch with them both led me to the softball field, which I feel was my first interview with Stirista.

When I joined Stirista in January 2015, my wife and I had a 2-year-old daughter, Kenzie. Our family has since expanded to include our son, Hayden, who’s now 2-1/2 years old. Stirista is all the kids have known, so it’s really cool that they see my coworkers as family!

6.) Tell us something we don’t know about you or that others might be surprised to learn.

I grew up driving a tractor on the farm and even made that my summer job during college. I graduated in a high school class of 11. I met my two best friends in kindergarten and still hang out with them when I go home to visit my family.

7.) What advice would you give to someone interested in doing what you do?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions and make mistakes. Also, the best accomplishments I’ve had while at Stirista have come from my going beyond doing what was asked of me or my role. I think that is a common theme for everyone at this company: We are only able to grow when people go beyond their comfort zones to do something really special!
