Team Stirista: Philip Mundt

Our monthly “Team Stirista” spotlight features Philip (Phil) Mundt, Stirista’s computer wiz and athletic deployment engineer from Spring, Texas. Phil’s average day revolves around deploying email campaigns and compiling lists from our database for clients. Let’s learn more about Phil.

1.) What do you like best about working at Stirista?

I think the company culture is really cool. Everyone in the office is friendly and sports are also a big part of the company’s culture. We are part of company-sponsored sports leagues, which give us the opportunity to get together and have fun with coworkers outside of work. I played on our spring league volleyball team where we won the championship about a month ago. I also play on the company’s basketball and softball teams.

2.) What sparked your curiosity for this position?

Computer coding, in general, is what I’m interested in. I went to a computer code school because I liked solving problems, thinking logistically and learning how writing the right code could help solve problems more efficiently.

The code school I went to taught HTML, CSS and Javascript coding languages. I use HTML and CSS for our email deployments, implementing what I learned from school. I would say that both HTML and SQL are what I use the most at work every day.

3.) What excites you most about what you do?

The feeling of adding value to the company by the way I solve problems both efficiently and quickly.

4.) What did you do before coming to Stirista?

Out of college, I was a field engineer for an oilfield service company. Then I was a back-end software developer. Those were my two jobs before coming to Stirista.

5.) Tell us something we don’t know about you.

My favorite sport to watch and play is basketball. Outside of the company I also like playing tennis. I enjoy playing all kinds of sports, including skiing and snowboarding. I grew up doing those things along with my family, who are also big into sports.

6.) What advice would you give to those who are interested in doing what you do?

I’d say two things: You need logical reasoning and the ability to not get discouraged when trying to solve problems. You just need to keep pushing through and writing until you get the answer you’re looking for.

7.) What is your favorite coding language?

Perl would be my favorite coding language, but Javascript is what I went to computer coding school for. I learned Perl on the job at my previous job. I’d say it’s a tie between Javascript and Perl, as those are the two I have experience with.
